this is one that has taken me a long time to work out (and I am still working on it). i have written in the most common key (you can find many versions of this on the internet). i initially wrote this for a low G (non-re-entrant tuning) and i had thought i would raise the key later (with Guitar Pro 6) to accommodate the fact that I am playing this on a soprano. but i played it on the soprano and the low A and Bb played on the 4th string an octave higher sounds really pretty cool.
the arrangement has all the movements in the original Gillespie piece. i play it slower and more soulful than Gillespie did. i think that i just sounds better. i do not include my solo in the my arrangement, but those skilled in the art of ukulele playing will see what i am doing. there is a hint to look at the end of my arrangement and put elements of this in my solo section.
the tricky part is that triplette on the one beat coming in from the “and” beat from the 4 of the previous measure in the main theme of the song. I am really counting this one. and –trip le ette 2 3 4 & 1 &, 2, 3, 4 & trip le ette 2 3 4 & 1 …. (bold is a played note – strike throughs are holds or rests). This is real difficult for me to get right.
if you want the basic arrangement and exercise basic arrangement can be made available to you for $ 2 through paypal to jazzukes@verizon.net. you will get the tab arrangement, a midi file for timing. or you could just make your arrangement from the chart to the right (i will not be upset).
thank you for your consideration.

Nice arrangement. Very differant. I love the voicing on the first beat of the head. min9?
ReplyDeletethanks J.
ReplyDeletei do a lot of 9 13s as a rule. but i do not have enough strings to get all the notes. that is where the bass line in my head takes over. you do not want to be in my head. there are a lot of strange musicians there playing all the time.
